INTERIOR DESIGN

Picking Out Your Furniture

You know when it comes to keeping a cohesive style throughout your home, it's important to plan what you purchase before actually keeping it in your home. Although there is trial and error where you bring your furniture home to see if it looks nice and return when it doesn't, but we all know that can be time consuming for all of us. Therefore, we ask ourselves what can be done to help give us the best visualizer to see what these furnitures look like together.

One thing that can be done to help us get an idea of what these items look like together is a mood board. Mood boards are such a visual way to help depict the direction you are going in your screen. The best thing about having a mood board is that it's not just used for interior design. There are many topics that you can use a mood board to help organize your thoughts (for example: photography).

When it comes to creating a mood board, one thing I like to do is create a board for each section of my home. A good example that I like to start out with is my bedroom. In my bedroom, I usually ask myself the budget for my space. As for now, since I'm in no zone to have a place of my own, I decided to go all out with whatever budget is there and choose the furniture that pleased my style. I then decided to go to my favorite sites that sold the furniture that fits my design style such as: Pottery Barn, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, and Target.

One thing you want to know when selecting your mood board is one, have a design style in place. Once you know your design style, then you need to understand your color palette of your space.

As you can see in this example of my mood board, you can see how I organize the furniture of my mood board. I placed the furniture that work with one another close to each other. Notice how they overlap each other? The reason why I do that is to see if it flows with one another.

When it comes to grouping the furniture, I usually group them depending on if they will be placed near each other or on top of each other. For example when it came to making the mood board for my bed, around it I have, my lamp, and floor rug. These are the few key items that I placed near each other to get the visual needed to understand if they intertwine well.

When creating a mood board, I highly recommend using Canva as a place to create it due to its access of having different templates and edit tools to place your furniture, along with the color palette of your choice. Although Canva requires to have a subscription in order to use the tools they provide, I highly recommend it since its been soo useful for me to sort out my ideas of each room. If you would like to see my vision for each room of my future space, I will post the rest on Pinterest. Be sure to follow me there as I'll be posting all my inspirations on my board. Happy mood boarding! (*if that even is a word...)
