Lunar New Year House Tour
It felt like yesterday when the Christmas decorations were still up, and the house was so bright on the outside and inside.
Well guess what, as I am writing this, it was yesterday when the Christmas decorations were still up. But now that the holiday is officially over, I am transitioning myself from the Christmas season to Lunar New Year. As many of you may already know, Lunar New Year is a very important holiday for the Asian community as we celebrate the new year based on the full moon in 2023. For my ethnicity, which is Vietnamese by the way, we celebrate the year of the cat while Chinese New Year celebrate year of the rabbit for 2023. No offense to them, but since I am a cat lover, I always got to defend the cat community.
This year for my home, my mom is hosting Lunar New Year for her, and my dad's friend and I wanted to show you around the house for what we did in the common areas of the home. Just like I did for Christmas, I wanted to write this post in the same format and show you around the house as if you were virtually here. Shall I take you on a mini tour around right now? Follow along!

When walking into my house, the first two impressions that you see are against the staircase and the living room, in which I have two dividers that showcase our Lunar New Year decorations.
My mom is a huge stan for having a nice backdrop to take photos during this season. As we wanted to target that goal, she though by having two of these different dividers be a backdrop for a place to take photos would create a foundation that sets the spot for those who would like to get a photo in front of it.
Let's into more details about each divider, shall we?
The first divider that I want to talk about is the one near the staircase. For this one we had two DIY woven baskets hanging on the divider that my mom and I worked on for a few days.

We used red wrapping paper that was on clearance at Michaels to create these mini fans in the woven baskets along with some faux floral that also got from Michaels. The woven basket was a gift to my mom from my aunt a really long time ago that she got from Daiso.
On the floor in front of the divider, my mom bought these red round lanterns that she pretty much cascaded on the floor. Along with that, we included to types of flowers on the left and right side of the divider. On the right side, we have two floor size pots that contains faux twigs in one of them.

In that pot, I decided to DIY myself some paper fished out of red envelopes that hung on some of the branches. Along with that, my mom thought of a very cool small idea to include some of the small red lanterns on the branches to add a little more volume to that area. On the left side now, my mom has a yellow chrysanthemum flower that she bought from Costco.

Fun fact, in the Vietnamese culture, the meaning of a chrysanthemum flower brings equilibrium to the house and a longevity of life.
The last final piece that we also in front of the chrysanthemum flower is this vintage stool that my mom already had existing in our house.
Now moving over to the second divider in the living room. This divider is more unique as the divider itself was a big bang of a purchase long ago in Vietnam from my dad when he was visiting. For this divider, there were less DIYs and more of just flower arrangements on both sides of the divider.

Along with having flowers on both sides, we also included the same cascading red lanterns on the floor while including yellow chrysanthemums flowers on the left and ride side of the lanterns.

Moving slowly over to our dining room now is another flower arrangement that was done by me. This one was a lot simpler as it only includes a plant called pussy willows, from Trader Joes, that are a traditional flower to have during the Lunar New Year. A few of the plants were painted red to have a touch of the traditional color while being mixed in with the original color of the plant. With the plant, I've also included a table runner that went across the dining table. The table runner is from Amazon, that I love because it creates layers on the table and connects all the Lunar New Year decorations together.

Another thing to also mention is the red envelopes that I hung on the plant that is also another tradition to do with most plants during Lunar New Year.
The final display that I wanted to show you in our dining room are these custom-made lanterns that my mom got from Vietnam that hung on the ceiling in front of the dining room. We had six of these lanterns the stretched across the dining room that added the final touch to that area.

Thank you for joining me today to see how my mom and I decorated the house for Lunar New Year! Whether you celebrate or not, we hope you learned a few things on what we decorated and the purpose behind it. Although decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do, it is also important to celebrate many of the cultures that are affiliated in my family. With that being said, I wish you all a Happy Lunar New Year!
